This is a bit of a personal note for our friends and relatives and anyone else who might be interested in what has been happening with the Weeks family.
Some of you likely don't know that my daughters are both figure skaters. They have been for a number of years now. We've been through a few coaches, a lot of lessons, two ice rinks, and several competitions.
We decided last year to limit the number of competitions they participate in, due to a variety of reasons not the least of which are the expenses involved.
After we hired a new coach, it became apparent that there were some things that they had been taught that were not correct. They had to undergo retraining, which is a difficult process for everyone involved.
I'm happy to announce that they are done with the retraining, and they participated in their one and only competition for this year. As it turned out, it has been the best competition they've had yet.
Jessica, my oldest, placed 3rd and 1st in her respective categories. Hannah, her younger sister, took the gold in both of her groups. Being the proud daddy that I am, I thought I'd share some video with you.
This is Hannah's first performance, limited beginner compulsory (without music). For this performance, she took first place.
This is Jessica's first performance, pre-preliminary compulsory (without music), where she took third place.
This is Jessica's second performance, the pre-preliminary freesytle (with music), where she took first place.
This is Hannah's second performance, the limited beginner freestyle, with music, and she also placed first in this one. The original clip has the music. For some reason, I'm having trouble getting YouTube to play the music in this one.
Hannah's performance was a pleasant surprise, given the fact that it was the first time she has ever placed first at a competition, and she won not one, but two gold medals!
Michelle and I couldn't be more proud. Our ultimate goal here is for them to be able to take what they've learned and use it to coach their way through college.
Congratulations, girls! Daddy loves you.
The girls with coach Carrie.
