Another Nail in the Coffin

By Darren Weeks

We get the following from the Baltimore Sun's environment news blog...
A U.S. Senate committee is scheduled for an historic vote on a global warming bill this week, perhaps as early as Wednesday. Environmental groups are planning a flurry of press conferences tomorrow (12/4/2007) to try to influence the vote.

Meanwhile, in Maryland, Gov. Martin O'Malley's advisory Commission on Climate Change is scheduled to meet tomorrow to discuss possible steps to reduce the state's greenhouse gas emmissions [sic]. The 22-member goup [sic], headed by state Environmental Secretary Shari T. Wilson, is looking to recommend that the state adopt laws to cut greenhouse gases by 25 percent by 2020, and then move aggressively to slash the pollutants by 90 percent by 2050, according to a draft report. To achieve these goals, the state should tighten its energy efficiency standards, strengthen building codes, require more clean energy generation, among other steps. [Full Article...]
The Senate is preparing to drive yet another nail in the coffin of the republic by voting mandates for so-called "greenhouse" emissions reductions.

It is absolutely remarkable how there doesn't seem to be anyone with an ounce integrity on Capitol Hill. Contrary to the claims of those who have much to gain in the arena of monetary and political incentives, there is no scientific consensus that global warming exists, and especially that human beings are causing it. There are countless real scientists who have come out of the woodwork to refute the notion of anthropogenic greenhouse warming. I've interviewed some of them on the radio show. Most notably, Dr. Fred Singer, who heads the Science and Environment Policy Project, a consortium of atmospheric scientists who are trying to stop this runaway freight train that will destroy what's left of our economy, and make it impossible for us to live.

We also must not forget the Leipzig Declaration, signed by more than 100 atmospheric scientists who met in Germany just prior to the Kyoto conference in Japan in 1997.
The Leipzig Declaration

As independent scientists researching atmospheric and climate problems, we -- along with many of our fellow citizens -- are apprehensive about the Climate Treaty conference scheduled for Kyoto, Japan, in December 1997. This gathering of politicians from some 160 signatory nations aims to impose -- on citizens of the industrialized nations, but not on others -- a system of global environmental regulations that include quotas and punitive taxes on energy fuels.

Fossil fuels provide today's principal energy source, and energy is essential for all economic growth. Stabilizing atmospheric carbon dioxide -- the announced goal of the Climate Treaty -- would require that fuel use be cut by as much as 60 to 80 percent -- worldwide!

In a world in which poverty is the greatest social pollutant, any restriction on energy use that inhibits economic growth should be viewed with caution. We understand the motivation to eliminate what are perceived to be the driving forces behind a potential climate change; but we believe the emerging Kyoto protocol -- to curtail carbon dioxide emissions from only part of the world community -- is dangerously simplistic, quite ineffective, and economically destructive jobs and standards-of-living.

More to the point, we consider the scientific basis of the 1992 Global Climate Treaty to be flawed and its goal to be unrealistic. The policies to implement the Treaty are, as of now, based solely on unproven scientific theories, imperfect computer models -- and unsupported assumptions that catastrophic global warming follows from the burning of fossil fuels and requires immediate action. We do not agree. We believe that the dire predictions of a future warming have not been validated by the existing climate record. These predictions are based on nothing more than theoretical models and cannot be relied on.

As the debate unfolds, it has become increasingly clear that -- contrary to the conventional wisdom -- there does not exist today a general scientific consensus about the importance of greenhouse warming from rising levels of carbon dioxide. In fact, many climate specialists now agree that actual observations from weather satellites show no global warming whatsoever -- in direct contradiction to computer model results.

Historically, climate has always been a factor in human affairs -- with warmer periods, such as the medieval "climate optimum," playing an important role in economic expansion and in the welfare of nations that depend primarily on agriculture. Colder periods have caused crop failures, and led to famines, disease, and other documented human misery. We must, therefore, remain sensitive to any and all human activities that could affect future climate.

However, based on all the evidence available to us, we cannot subscribe to the politically inspired world view that envisages climate catastrophes and calls for hasty actions. For this reason, we consider the drastic emission control policies likely to be endorsed by the Kyoto conference -- lacking credible support from the underlying science -- to be ill-advised and premature.

The point is that Al Gore likes to burn all sorts of "fossil fuels" flying around the world, scaring everyone into thinking the sky is falling. We've exposed on the show how Gore is profiting from carbon market trading through his company Generation Investment Management. We've also talked about how Gore's a huge hypocrite when it comes to being an environmental conservationist. His $30,000 electric bill is evidence that he certainly has no plans to alter his lifestyle any time soon.

The truth of the matter is that most — if not all — of the scientists who support the notion of anthropogenic greenhouse warming are being funded by grant money. Chapter 35 of Agenda 21 is titled, "Science for Sustainable Development". How do you think they are going to get the science to support their agenda of "sustainable development"? The key word again is "grants". If you fund it, you get more of it. Remember the saying, the love of money is the root of all evil? Truer words could not be spoken.

Incidentally, the weather forecast is calling for a high likelihood of snow showers in D.C. for Wednesday. So while the Congressional whores are voting to take away our freedoms and free enterprise because of "global warming", they will likely be doing it under a blanket of snow.

That's kind of reminiscent of the Kyoto conference, itself, when the delegates brought in a large ice sculpture with the intent of letting the media film it while it melted — a clear sign that "global warming" was at its highest apex. Too bad for them that the temperatures never rose above freezing and the ice sculpture stayed frozen. Can't win them all, right?

Global warming is a political and social agenda looking for science to support it. It is the biggest fraud in the history of mankind. Yet, that likely won't stop our hideous excuse for a CONgress from passing bills which make it more expensive to do business, and ultimately will lead to a revolution in the American way of life.
