Finally! Rain...

By Darren Weeks

We've finally gotten some rain! It has been extremely dry in southern Michigan for several weeks. I snapped a few pictures of the corn that is growing in the nearby fields to give you an idea how bad it has been.

Also, the water levels in the rivers and streams have gotten very low, as of late.

I took these shots of the Grand River at a park in Grand Ledge about a week ago.

Michelle heard them say on the news that it hadn't been this dry since the drought of the early 1980's. I remember that dry spell very well. I was just a kid. We were praying for rain because it had been so hot and dry for such an extended period of time, and we were worried about the farmers. We were so excited that we took shampoo and washed our hair in the street when the rains finally came. It's funny that I had all but forgotten that until now.

Of course, we probably didn't have natural weather patterns back then, and we most definitely don't have them now. In fact, things have gotten so much worse that we almost seem to have two conditions today: Droughts or floods — and both are equally destructive to our food supply.

Also, I have a program note. After must discussion, former talk show host Chris Gerner of Amerikan Expose returns to the airwaves to join me on Govern America as my guest on Saturday morning, September 6th for all three hours. The show begins at 8AM Eastern Daylight Time. It should be interesting.
