The pending Supreme Court ruling on gun control is very disconcerting. I understand the desire of the residents of the District of Columbia to keep and bear arms. However, my concern has always been that their efforts could end up doing more harm than good.
We've seen in 2005 the damage the court did to private property rights in the Kelo vs. New London decision, ruling that cities could use eminent domain for private development takings. That decision was clearly a communitarian ruling meaning a ruling that placed individual rights second to the "greater good" of the collective (community). This is how all of your liberties are being taken away today.
The social engineers/revolutionaries will never approach Americans, who still cling to the false notion that they are free, and say that you no longer have the right to private property, freedom of speech, firearms, protections from unlawful search and seizure, etc. They will let you think that you have all of those rights and more.
But your rights, when weighed against the well-being, benefit or safety of the whole community, are subject to limitation and, if necessary, elimination. It is groupism, versus individualism. Whenever a group is pitted against an individual, the collective rights of the group always prevail against the individual. Never mind the fact that each person that forms a group is an individual.
Giving the group a "collective" right, as opposed to each person an individual right, is a clever way of removing all rights, while pretending to uphold them. I am firmly convinced that this is why the United States is referred to as a "democracy" when we know our founding fathers set it up as a representative republic. Mikhail Gorbachev has repeatedly referred to the term "democracy" as socialism. I have the articles. And he ought to know. This Time Magazine man of the decade is an unrepentant communist who was quoted by the New York Times in 1989 as saying, "I am a Communist, a convinced Communist! For some that may be a fantasy. But to me it is my main goal."
Hence, seeing what a poor job the exalted black robe demons did during the Kelo case, and seeing what a horrific job they did with the Terri Schindler Schiavo case murdering a useless eater for the "greater good" of society I'm not terribly optimistic that the Supreme Corpse will rule in favor of the individual's right to keep and bear arms, despite the clear wording of the Second Amendment "shall not be infringed".
I truly hope I'm wrong. But if I'm not, every city council could have the ability to make ordinances, outlawing guns with impunity, every state legislature could outlaw guns with no expectation that the matter could be struck down in the courts as unconstitutional. The people will always have an unalienable right to arms, because our rights are granted to us by God not by any constitution, lawmaking body, or judicial hierarchy.
But failure of governments to recognize the rights of the people, regardless of the artful linguistics used to mask their thievery, has always resulted in victimization of the people by both governments themselves, and the common criminal. And these days, it is highly difficult to tell the two apart.
